Elevate Your Skin Care Routine This Year With Regular Facials

Elevate Your Skin Care Routine This Year With Regular Facials

You probably have a skin care routine that helps you keep your skin healthy and nourished, but there’s a limit to the results you can get at home with over-the-counter products. That’s why Med Physique Center for Aesthetics in Austin, Texas, offers numerous facial treatments to elevate your routine and keep you looking your best.

With the start of the new year upon us, our team of master aestheticians recommends you commit yourself to getting regular facials for the best possible results.

Why does my skin look old and blemished?

When you’re young, your skin has a smooth outer layer that acts as a good barrier to water and environmental injury. Color and tone are even, and components such as collagen (provides tautness), elastin (provides elasticity and rebound) and glycosaminoglycans or GAGs (keep the skin hydrated) are all abundant. Over time, though, you experience both intrinsic aging and extrinsic aging, which can mar the outer layers.

Intrinsic aging is part of getting older. After about age 20, your body produces about 1% less collagen each year, rendering the skin thinner and more fragile. You also experience decreased functioning of the sweat and oil glands, decreased elastin production, and decreased GAG formation. The end result is the development of wrinkles and creases, and a slight “hollowing” of areas like your cheeks and the backs of your hands.

Extrinsic aging occurs as a result of sun and other environmental damage (e.g., tobacco use and pollution). The damage includes a thickening of the outer skin layer, precancerous changes (e.g., actinic keratosis), freckle and sunspot formation, and exaggerated loss of collagen, elastin, and GAGs. Together, this results in uneven tone, brown patches, thin skin, and deep wrinkles.

Fortunately, we have treatments for all of those.

What facial treatments are available?

Here are a number of our many facial treatment options.

AQUAGOLD® fine touch™

Microneedling is a treatment that uses rows of ultrafine needles to create microchannels in your skin. In turn, that triggers your body’s healing response, especially new production of collagen and elastin, which fill in lines, furrows, and even scars.

AQUAGOLD fine touch isn’t exactly the same as microneedling, but it follows some of the same principles. It’s a microinjector that uses very fine, 24-karat gold-plated needles to create the microchannels. Then, we apply nourishing serums that include vitamins, peptides, and hyaluronic acid, the latter of which attracts and holds moisture. These serums are absorbed easily through the microchannels and help to smooth and moisturize your skin for a healthy glow.

SilkPeel® Dermalinfusion

SilkPeel® dermalinfusion™ is a high-performance system that provides simultaneous exfoliation of the dead, outer layers of skin, and delivers skin-specific topical solutions, such as moisturizers. Its noninvasive diamond-tip applicator is both painless and safe; it can be used on sensitive skin; and it offers comparable results to microdermabrasion, but without the downtime.

SilkPeel® addresses a range of complaints, including enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, uneven tone, and overall dryness. And best of all, it works on skin anywhere on your body, so you can look refreshed from head to toe.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial

IPL uses many different wavelengths of light to improve the color and texture of your skin, and it can undo some of the visible damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet waves. As the light energy heats up the skin, it breaks apart the pigment in freckles, sunspots, and areas of hyperpigmentation. It also fades spider veins, blood vessels close to the skin’s surface. Generally, you’ll need several sessions to achieve your aesthetic goals.

SkinCeuticals®

SkinCeuticals is a line of medical-grade products we carry and recommend to our clients to help cleanse and nourish their skin outside of the office. Our aestheticians can help you pick out the best products for your skin that you can use at home in your daily regimen to augment your in-office treatments.
