Botox Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable purified toxin that temporarily halts muscle activity that contributes to wrinkles and lines. It’s the best-selling injectable wrinkle-reducer in the United States. Approved for use by the FDA, Botox has hundreds of studies supporting its safety and efficacy.

How does Botox reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles?

Botox contains the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When injected into key areas in your face, it reduces the muscle activity that etches lines and wrinkles into your skin that result from smiles, frowns, or other facial expressions.

When applied expertly at Med Physique Center For Aesthetics, the results of Botox look entirely natural. You simply appear more relaxed and radiant.

What areas does Botox treat?

The FDA approves Botox to reduce the appearance of:

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Worry lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal lines on the forehead

You may choose to have all of these areas treated or just certain areas. Plus, the team at Med Physique Center For Aesthetics can combine Botox with dermal fillers and other injectables to complete your look. Your provider may also recommend a Botox alternative, such as Dysport® or Jeuveau®, if it is more appropriate for your aesthetic goals.

How long do the results of Botox last?

Botox yields temporary but effective results, and you can have repeat treatments to maintain your look for the long term. You notice wrinkle reduction within 48 hours, with optimal results showing up in about seven days. These effects last 3-4 months, after which you can have retreatment at Med Physique Center For Aesthetics.

Should I schedule downtime following Botox injections?

Botox treatments do not require you to take time off work or school. You can go back to workouts, chores, or other activities right after your appointment.

Side effects are minimal. Some people may have slight bruising or swelling at the injection site, but it’s easily covered with makeup and shouldn’t interrupt your day.

Do Botox injections hurt?

Application of Botox does require injections with a very fine needle. You feel a slight pinch for a brief moment, but most people tolerate the treatment quite well.

Botox (as well as Dysport® or some dermal fillers) may be applied with AQUAGOLD® microneedling, too. This treatment deposits tiny amounts of these compounds to boost your look in a comprehensive way.

If you’re sensitive, talk to your provider about whether they can use a topical numbing cream or ice prior to your injections. Most people do just fine without them, though.
